December Monthly column
The most important role of a Member of Parliament is to represent the interests of their electorate.
However in a time of social media and vocal pressure groups conducting email and letter writing campaigns, finding out what most people really think about issues can be difficult.
In our modern society there is so much noise threatening to drown out the voices of ordinary, everyday Australians.
To help ensure more people in the local electorate have a say when it comes to the issues facing our society, and there is a better flow of information into my office and through to Parliament in Canberra, I am launching Your Gilmore Opinion Network on Saturday, December 10.
And if you sign up to be part of the network of people sharing views on the news and issues facing the nation, you have the chance to win an iPad Mini.
Here is your chance to make sure your voice is heard when it comes to the decisions facing the Australian Government.
We have a great deal to do as a government and nation - getting the country’s finances on an even footing so future generations will not be lumbered with crippling debt, ensuring education systems meet the needs of a changing society, providing the best possible health care to our residents, protecting our borders in a world that has turmoil in so many places, and creating the economic conditions in which businesses are confident to expand and employ more people.
There is also a lot to be done to ensure all Australians are able to benefit from the nation’s economic prosperity, and that we look after those who are struggling for whatever reason.
It is a big job, with many different sectors needing financial support. Your opinions will help prioritise the issues for our region.
I firmly believe that no single person has all the answers, and the more people there are having a say on an issue, the more likely we are to get the best possible result.
So with Your Gilmore Opinion Network I will be regularly emailing subscribers to get their views on issues facing the nation or the local area.
I’m asking people to register for Your Gilmore Opinion Network on www.annsudmalismp.com.au or by sending their names, email and residential addresses, and best contact numbers to ann.sudmalis.mp@aph.gov.au.
All people who register by Tuesday, December 6, will be in the draw to win some great prizes including an iPad Mini.
With Christmas coming up, this could be a great gift for someone special.
The prizes will be presented when Your Gilmore Opinion Network is officially launched in Nowra on Saturday, December 10, as part of a family fun afternoon in Nowra’s Harry Sawkins Park featuring games, a jumping castle, face painting and animals from the Shoalhaven Zoo.
I am working with Touched by Olivia which is conducting a barbecue to raise money to build an all-inclusive playground at Mollymook.
The fun and games kick off at 1pm, so please join us for an enjoyable afternoon, or register to give your feedback through the Gilmore Opinion Network. Media Release
