Just a few weeks ago an announcement was made in Batemans Bay by the Hon. Andrew Constance Minister for Transport in the presence of the Hon.Duncan Gay and the Southern Regions RMS regional manager that a new four lane bridge will be constructed over the Clyde River in Batemans Bay within five years. The actual location of this new bit of taxpayer funded infrastructure over the Clyde River at Batemans Bay was not identified, but is assumed to be in the approximate location of the existing bridge?
It seems as though the Minister for Infrastructure was panicked into responding because of the opening and closing failures of the Bays Bridge simply because of a lack of maintenance of the lifting mechanisms by the State Government.
But it’s been known for years by the state government and the Local Member the bridge openings cause a range of traffic problems for those using the Princes Highway, as do the traffic lights in Moruya. Perhaps the Minister for Infrastructure needs to focus his attentions on identifying a new Princes Highway route through the Eurobodalla Shire that would alleviate all the traffic bottle necks and recommend taxpayers money be directed as a priority to establishing and delivering a new Princes Highway in the Eurobodalla Shire over coming years.
