Public justifications and reports from Councillor conferences called for.

The Editor

Once councillors are elected decisions are made by them, and agreed to, about how they should behave and, amongst other things, how much each individual councillor can spend on conference attendances. Their individual annual conference allocations are in the order of $3100. Whether that includes travel and out of pocket expenses I’m not clear on but that may be in addition to the $3100?

Councillors and Council Staff attend Conferences and other information sessions on behalf of the shires residents and ratepayers at venues all over the country. Apparently though there isn’t any public record of what they present at the conferences on behalf of the shires residents and ratepayers, if they present anything at all. Nor is there any public reporting to date of conferences and other associations meetings attended by them. Councillors should resolve when they agree to send councillors and council staff to conferences what they will present, on behalf of the shire’s community who employ them. The should also then report on the result of their presentations to the shire’s resident and ratepayers. Can our elected councillors and council staff provide reports for the benefit of the shires residents and ratepayers about their conference etc. works and attendances for the remainder of this term of the council? One of our councillors could present a motion to this effect at the next Council meeting couldn’t they ?
