For many years Local Councils all over the country have been inventing ideas about revenue raising which in the end if they succeed is a cost of living increase to everyone. The success to recent rate rise approvals was the development of the story about infrastructure back logs. For years many local Councils and Government Departments have not provided funds for regular maintenance programs that would keep community and taxpayer owned infrastructures, bridges and most other things in good working order. What they’ve done is delayed proper maintenance programs in favour of the bureaucratic just-in-time philosophy, which generally ends up with infrastructure failures or limited uses being available.
There never seems to be any shortage of funds though to employ more highly paid staff or consultants in all Government Systems, that is something that needs rectifying by all elected community representatives before any increases to anything associated with Government are considered or approved.
