Residents and Businesses of the Eurobodalla Shire are dependent on the Kings and Princes Highway for delivery’s of virtually all goods and services they require for daily survival.
All of the Shire’s Local economy’s, their Tourism and Retail business survivals, are also dependent on the Kings and Princes Highways for the efficient deliveries of all goods via road transport, just like the neighbouring shires. Those neighbouring shires, north and south of the Eurobodalla, have an advantage though being able to transport more freight more efficiently because of the types of vehicles that can travel on the Princes Highway to them. “B” Double’s.
The RMS has been working on a proposed 20 year Princes Highway Corridor Strategy that really is generally a band aid plan that will provide limited Princes Highway improvements over the life of the proposed plan.
What is really required for the Princes Highway, as it effects the residents of the Eurobodalla Shire’s long term well being, is the development of a plan that will provide a decent four lane highway well into the future for the benefit of all who rely on it for access and deliveries.
That’s what needs to be discussed by our elected representatives and also with the State Government and RMS officials at this time. Until there is a decent proposal for developing a modern Princes Highway Plan through the Eurobodalla Shire, funding for sensible and efficient Princes Highway then upgrades and re routing are unlikely to occur. In the meantime the Eurobodalla Shire's residents pay increased prices for a range of essential commodities including increased travel times.
