The coaching team at the Broulee Dolphins Rugby Union Club have held a series of planning afternoons in recent weeks in an effort to plot a new direction for player development with the club.
The team have adopted a club-wide approach, and have been working together to standardise strategies, tactics, and technical language across all teams. A particular focus will be on terms and plays used with the Brumbies representative squads. This will work to strengthen the player’s knowledge and skills and give the players a competitive edge in matches and at Brumbies representative trials.
“Rugby Union is the ultimate combination of physical conditioning and mental astuteness” said Junior Vice President, Jon Brady. “Whilst our teams will be working hard on strength and conditioning in the pre-season, they will also be put through a battery of game based scenarios to improve decision making and tactical awareness”
Under 18’s head coach Michael Nicoletti puts defence at the top of his priorities. “Defensive structure will be a major pre-season focus for all teams. Attack will flow for teams with a sound defensive structure”
“Coach education is also high on the agenda at Dolphins Rugby” Brady said, “This season we are fortunate that every junior team will have a head coach with a minimum Level 1 qualification”
The Dolphins are looking to put their new strategy in place when training begins for the 2017 season next Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at Captain Oldrey Park. Training runs from 4.30 to 5.30pm.
