Works begin to replace Runnyford Bridge

A section of Runnyford Road will be closed for seven months from 20 March 2017 while Eurobodalla Shire Council works to replace Runnyford Bridge.

Located west of Batemans Bay, Runnyford Road will be closed from the western side of Runnyford Bridge to Mays Road until the end of October to enable demolition and replacement of the bridge.

There will be no access to cross the river at Runnyford for the duration of the works.

Council’s Director of Infrastructure Services Warren Sharpe said the new structure would be rebuilt as a timber bridge.

“The existing Runnyford Bridge has deteriorated to a point where it is incapable of carrying the heavy loads required to service the area,” Mr Sharpe said.

“The works will involve demolition of the existing timber bridge and construction of a new structure that will allow unrestricted access by approved vehicles.

“For the safety of all road users we will be closing the road for the duration of the works.”

Council has advised emergency services of the closure and contingency plans are in place.

Mr Sharpe anticipates the work to be complete by November 2017, weather permitting. Media Release
