The Bay Theatre Players’ production of ‘Blithe Spirit’, will open in April at the Playhouse in Gregory Street, Batemans Bay. Tickets are now available from Bargain Box, Batemans Bay (4472 5984) but you will need to get in quick. There are only eight performances, from 9-29 April. One of them will be a matinee on Easter Saturday so if you have visitors who would like to join you back in the 1930s that might be a good performance to come and see. Director, Kath Joyce, regards the play as a modern classic. She says: ‘I think our Bay Area audiences will enjoy the lovely period costumes and furnishings’. The play was first seen in London’s West End in 1941, where it set a new long-run record for non-musical British plays of 1,997 performances. It also did well on Broadway later that year, running for 657 performances. Note that there are only eight shows, so patrons are reminded to get in early to ensure they get a seat, where and when they want

“The witty repartee and clever plot have been delighting audiences for more than 70 years, yet it remains fresh and timeless,” Blithe Spirit director Kath Joyce says of the play.
The story takes place over several days, at the home of Ruth and Charles Condomine, who have invited local medium Madame Arcati to hold a séance after dinner.
However, events do not go well and the ghost of Charles’ first wife Elvira is called back, but only he can see or hear her.
Chaos ensues as we come to discover Elvira has an ulterior motive and she doesn’t intend to go back until she gets what she’s after!
