Member for Bega Andrew Constance has announced a new crossing of the Clyde River on the Princes Highway at Batemans Bay has moved a step closer with Aurecon Australasia Pty Ltd being awarded a contract for the concept design and environmental assessment stage of the project. Mr Constance said awarding the contract is a great step forward for this project, which will improve safety and journey times for all road users. “The successful tenderer will work towards identifying and assessing the preferred option for a new crossing of the Clyde River on the Princes Highway, with the preferred option expected to be on display for community feedback later this year,” Mr Constance said. “Aurecon will work with the project team, technical specialists and community stakeholders during the concept design and environmental assessment stage.
"It was great to hit an important milestone on the new Batemans Bay Bridge, with Aurecon getting the contract to design and build a new crossing over the Clyde River. We're not mucking around, we're building it - and I can't wait to see the finished product" Andrew Constance
“As part of the contract, they will carry out work including road, bridge, structural, drainage and landscaping design. “Other elements will include site work and studies including surveys, geotechnical, flooding and traffic investigations.” Mr Constance said a new bridge would improve local and peak holiday season traffic flow, increase freight capacity and reduce the impact of bridge closures to the community. “Along with improving safety, travel times and freight access, the new bridge will reduce the ongoing maintenance costs associated with the existing bridge,” Mr Constance said. “Geotechnical work will continue to be carried out until late May and results from the geotechnical studies will be used to help determine the preferred option for the new bridge.” Media Release
