Eurobodalla Shire Council will start work next week to make much-needed safety improvements to Rotary Drive, west of Batemans Bay.
Located between the Kings Highway and Holmes Lookout, the unsealed road has been the site of the number of accidents, including a fatality last year.
Batemans Bay businessman Jim Johns approached Council and Member for Bega Andrew Constance about the need to improve the road.
Minister Constance said that due to such strong advocacy for the improvements, he was able to announce that the NSW Government is funding the $170,000 project.
“These works are a win for the community; any lives lost on our roads are too many.
“The NSW Government is committed to improving road safety and I am pleased that once again we have been able to fund these works and thank Eurobodalla Shire Council for undertaking these upgrades for the betterment of our community.”
Mayor Liz Innes said this is another example of successful advocacy and cooperation between the community, Council and the NSW Government.
“I’m so pleased to see this work is getting started and extend my thanks to Jim for his persistent lobbying and to Andrew and the RMS for securing the funding for us.”
The safety improvements will see sections of the road widened and reshaped before a final gravel resheet is applied to the road surface.
Work will commence mid-May and be complete by the end of June. Media Release
