At the 3rd June meeting of the Tuross Head Garden Club we had a very interesting and informative talk about Grey Headed Flying Foxes by Fiona Hope, the Eurobodalla Council’s Natural Resources Officer. Fiona did a very good PR job on the bats that were so hated last year in our area. She told us that the bats have been invading our urban areas due to loss of habitat. They come to eat the fruit and flowers of the Eucalypts and are great seed disbursers. However they are vulnerable to extinction in the near future due to high temperatures and drought and starvation. They soon move on when the food is gone and their faeces is only a problem when they eat the fruit from the cocos palms.
Our next meeting will be a cruise on the Clyde River on Saturday 1st July at 11am till 2.30 pm. Which will cost $42 and anyone who hasn’t already put her name down should please ring Barb on 44736457 before 16th June.
