Turnbull has slashed $19 million to Gilmore Schools

Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Tanya Plibersek joined Labor's candidate for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips, at Sanctuary Point Public School, to discuss the terrible impact of the cuts.

Following the visit to the school the pair paused for a doorstop interview .

"Malcolm Turnbull and the Liberals are cutting more than $19 million from schools in Gilmore.

Official data from the NSW Government shows that over the next two years alone Sanctuary Point Public School will lose about $900,000 because of Mr Turnbull’s cuts."

"The Liberals’ schools policy means less funding for public schools, and more for elite private schools.

"Under Malcolm Turnbull, a public school like Sanctuary Point loses about $900,000, while elite private schools in Sydney that have fees of more than $20,000 get multimillion increases. It’s completely unfair.

"Instead of speaking up for local schools, the Liberals’ Member for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis, has been cheering on Malcolm Turnbull’s cuts.

"Labor has stood united against the Liberals’ terrible schools policy from day one fighting for .

public schools and Catholic parish schools.

"Labor will restore every dollar the Liberals have cut - we’ll get all schools up to their fair level of funding.

"We want better schools, better results, and better support for our great teachers. Every student, at every school, deserves a great education. That’s what Labor will fight for, every single day, between now and the next election. Fiona Phillips also offered "I cannot express enough how heartening it was to see firsthand the great work of this school, that’s having a meaningful impact on student’s lives and working with and helping our community; a community that has unemployment of 13.2% and youth unemployment of 23.7%. "There can be absolutely no justification for Malcolm Turnbull’s $19 million in cuts to Gilmore school funding in 2018/19 that deny this school and all schools in Gilmore from reaching the minimum resource level based on need.
