Yesterday saw the Batemans Bay bridge traversed by a catamaran on a trailer. Not just an ordinary little catamaran as we are generally used to seeing being towed up and down the coast - this one was a whopper. Gary Smith witnessed the event and sent us in the photo below. "It took ages to cross the bridge with centimetres to spare either side, plus full police escort from the Canberra area I was told." Gary texted

The catamaran came down the coast from Murrumbateman and will be launched today with a fit out to come before it sails off to warmer climes. With more and more exposure of our south coast ports of Batemans Bay, Eden and Ulladulla via the Sydney to Hobart race and more recently with the very popular local sailing events the yachties are learning that there are good safe moorings to be had that provide access to this stunning corner of Australia to explore. The Batemans Bay Marina has seen a steady increase in visitation and, as word gets out that they have fuel, provisions and are just a few hundred meters away from any goods and services required the numbers will continue to build, especially with the proposed marina projects in Eden coming on line as well.
