The Eurobodalla Health Service committee is ready for a busy second half of 2017, with the upcoming Preventing and Managing Diabetes Information Session on 2 August and Eurobodalla Health Expo on 7 October. This month the committee focussed on final preparations for the information session on August 2. “A key function of the committee is to provide opportunities for people to become more informed about health matters. The team at the Eurobodalla Health Service work in conjunction with us to bring these events to the community. The best part is that people can attend for free,” Committee Chair Brad Rossiter said One of the major, and most important, functions of the committee is to advocate for the patient voice. This month the committee learnt about the REACH Program (Recognise, Engage, Act, Call, Help). REACH is a patient and family activated rapid response program. REACH encourages patients, family and carers to engage with their nurse or medical team if they are concerned that 'something is not right' and there is a deterioration in a loved one’s condition. The program has been implemented at both Batemans Bay and Moruya hospitals. The committee welcomed the Executive Director Clinical Operations Michelle Arrowsmith, to her first meeting of the EHSCRC. Michelle oversees all facilities and clinical services within the Southern NSW Local Health District. This month the health events calendar is overflowing with initiatives that the community can become involved with such as Dry July for the whole month, (which raises money for cancer by giving up alcohol for a month), 24-30 July National Pain Week, 28 July World Hepatitis Day and of course 30 July - 6 August is Donate Life Week. As part of Donate Life Week Brad Rossiter is inviting people to come along to Bridge Plaza Batemans Bay, Friday August 4 at 11:30am to be part of a large photo call. All you need is to bring your smile. The Preventing and Managing Diabetes Information Session will be held Wednesday 2 August from 2:30 to 3:30 at the CWA Hall, 64 Queen Street Moruya. The session is FREE. For more information, please contact Renata Sheehan on 0477 322 107 or renata.sheehan@health.nsw.gov.au to find out how you can get involved.
