Top of the table teams the Far South Coast Falcons and the Flying Piglets will play Girls 10 a side Rugby Union in Bega on Saturday 22 July.
Both teams play in the ACT & Southern NSW Junior Rugby Union Competition - the first of its kind in Australia, and both teams are unbeaten so far this season.
The Far South Coast Falcons are based in Tathra, with players coming from as far as Eden and Batemans Bay to train each week. They travel to Canberra and Jindabyne for games and this will be their first games on home turf. They'll be running on to the Bega Rec Ground (due to unavailability at Tathra) to a home crowd and are really looking forward to playing in front of their families and friends.
The Far South Coast Falcons U15s girls play Canberra Vikings at 11.00am. At midday the Jindabyne Miss Piglets U15s girls will play Daramalan from the ACT. At 1.00pm the combined Far South Coast and Jindabyne team, calling themselves the Flying Piglets will take on Daramalan.
The Far South Coast Falcons Rugby Union Club is a newly formed club and has been assisted throughout the season by the experience of the Jindabyne Rugby Union Club and former Wallaby great Gary Pearse. The teams look to local legend Milly Boyle and the likes of Charlotte Caslick and Sharni Williams for inspiration.
Jindabyne players Rhianna and Kirra Burke lead a tough and fast U17s Flying Piglets team featuring Pambula's Tamika Millard and Batemans Bay's Jada Flanagan.
"The Falcons and the Flying Piglets are going to be bringing their best on Saturday," says Falcons' coach Scott Harris.
"This is Rugby Union and it comes with all the hard hitting tackles and a lot of the technicalities that Union is famous for. Spectators will not be disappointed. We hope a lot of people come to the games to see what all the fuss is about and to support the girls, they've been on the road for 6 rounds - time to bring it home," he said.
