A Buzz for all business

Join in Narooma’s first Business Buzz next month, meet other local business people and find out about ‘economic gardening’.

If you are in business in the area from Bodalla to Tilba, come to Club Narooma on Tuesday 5 September (armed with a swag of business cards) for the first of what will become regular networking sessions organised by Narooma Chamber of Commerce for all local business people, not only Chamber members.

‘It’s speed briefing, a bit like speed dating, and a lot of fun,’ said Chamber president Niels Bendixsen.

‘Each person puts a business card into a hat and during the evening we’ll draw out three cards. If your card is drawn, you’ll have one minute to promote your business.

‘It’s for all business people in the area, whether their market is local or national as an increasing number of our businesses are.’

Matt Deveson of The Whale will also talk about ‘economic gardening’ where existing local businesses can be encouraged to grow.

‘Research shows that cultivating existing businesses in regional areas has much greater success in building local economies and creating jobs than trying to attract new businesses to an area,’ he said.

Mr Bendixsen said the Chamber intends holding these Business Buzz sessions about every three months with speed briefings and ‘a presentation of sorts’, possibly moving around different venues.

‘Business Buzz is one of several new initiatives by the Chamber to stimulate local business interest and interest in the Chamber,’ Mr Bendixsen said.

The first Business Buzz is at Club Narooma on Tuesday 5 September starting at 6pm. Finger food will be served.

Another idea the Chamber is exploring is Brain Bank Mentoring.

‘This is an exciting new initiative where we’re looking at building a bank of experienced retired or not retired business folk with specific expertise who are willing to mentor others,’ Mr Bendixsen said.
