Eurobodalla Mayor Liz Innes has given an enthusiastic ‘thumbs up’ to the exciting news that Rex Airlines has expanded its Moruya-Sydney air route, saying the additional flight capacity and cheaper fares reflect confidence in the Eurobodalla economy.
The airline announced on Friday that a dedicated daily morning flight between Moruya and Sydney would be included in the timetable and the second flight of the day would go direct to Sydney rather than via Merimbula. The timetable changes commence 30 October.
Rex also announced lower minimum fares. The current promotional fare of $119 each way is now called a Community Fare and will be available for a trial period until June 2018.
Council owns Moruya Airport and struck a five-year partnership agreement with Rex in July 2015.
“The agreement provides Rex with business certainty on the Moruya-Sydney air route and locals and visitors are certainly now reaping the rewards of our strong relationship with the airline,” said Clr Innes.
“Rex have demonstrated a belief in the region and in the Moruya air route. The lower minimum fares are in place for a trial period and I encourage people to check these out and give the service a go.
“Encourage your friends and family to fly down for the weekend, consider the convenience of flights for business travel, or treat yourself to a city-fix with a great value flight that saves time on the road.”
Rex says the agreement with Council has been integral in their decision to expand and improve the Moruya to Sydney flight schedule.
The changes are:
· A dedicated daily flight each way that is not shared with Merimbula, which means more seats for Moruya passengers
· Lower minimum fares of $119 each way - $30 lower than currently – with more seats available at this fare
· Small changes to the flight schedule for two of Moruya’s six daily flights.
