Dear Beagle Editor, Thank you for alerting us to the fact that Council intended to sell Walker Park in Narooma. Since first advising you of the concerns residents we have been hard at work with petitions and telling everyone we can to write submissions. Thank you to Phil Constable for getting us an extension of time as well to make submissions. We were horrified to discover the park was listed in the report. Now we learn that all the anger, the distrust of Council, the petitions and the letters and meetings we have had (and been having since 2010) were not required because, according to the Narooma News today "The good news for Narooma residents is that Walker Park on McMillan Road will not be sold as part of Eurobodalla Shire Council’s plans to raise funds. In regards to Walker Park at Narooma, the Eurobodalla Council has advised that the proposal to investigate the sale of Walker Park listed in the draft Recreation and Open Space Strategy was incorrect. The spokesperson said the recommendation to sell this community asset would not be included in the final document. The council’s website has been updated with the correction" What the ??? This is a disgrace and probably bullsh*t as well. Council got caught out trying to sell Walker Park and are now do a backflip saying it was a mistake to put it as a line item on page 156 of a 195 page document they know that no-one will read. Busted. Thanks to Phil Constable for his terrific support of his Narooma community and for standing up and putting Council on notice that their so called recreational open space plan has so many errors that it should be thrown out - what a shambles and the ratepayers have to pay for it. Disgusted. Name and address supplied
