That’s the question being asked by PACK THE POOL, a group who believe the only way to keep a 50-metre pool in Batemans Bay, is by an overwhelming show of support for the current pool.
The first Pack the Pool event will be at Batemans Bay Olympic Pool at 10:30am on Saturday November 25th. Inflatable flamingo’s welcome.
The group fears the demolition and replacement of the current 50 metre lap pool with a 25-metre indoor lap pool, may leave the town short-changed for generations to come.
Spokesperson for the group, Andrew Belk, said its time to settle the matter in a clear way.
“The community says it wants a 50-metre pool. Council says the demand is not there to justify the cost. The time for talk is over. The best chance the community has to ensure we keep 50 metre capacity is to use the pool we have. All of us. As much as possible. Right now. Go for a swim. Take your kids. Take your grandkids. Get a group together and have a paddle. It’s easy. It’s cheap. It’s healthy and its fun. Older and retired people particularly need to get to the pool and support it in the name of the kids and young people of this town.”
Mr Belk said the group has come together as a simple and clear way for people to demonstrate their support for a full-sized pool.
