I am so intensely proud of Eden-Monaro today, with a YES result amongst the highest in Australia. My greatest challenge and mission is to be worthy of this wonderful community.
With 65% of Eden-Monaro voting YES, I have an overwhelming mandate to support love, equality and fairness in Parliament.
The people of Eden-Monaro together with millions of Australians have sent a clear message to our LGBTIQ community: we are with you.
Despite a deeply flawed process, we have made the best of this situation. I am proud of the civilised and respectful debate that took place in our region.
There can be no further delay – Eden-Monaro expects me and my fellow Parliamentarians to deliver marriage equality as quickly as possible.
