Uplift Live Music and Art launches at South East Regional Hospital

South East Arts will launch Uplift, their live music and art program at the South East Regional Hospital on Thursday 15 February. This program is part of South East Art's Swell: Arts & Health program and it will provide a unique opportunity for patients, staff and carers visiting the hospital.

Arts Health is the practice of using the arts to improve health and wellbeing, as well as enhance health care experiences for patients and their families. In conjunction with the Bega Valley Regional Gallery and Tulgeen Disability Services, South East Arts are installing an exhibition of paintings by 'Art in the Garage' artist Miriam Kidd in the foyer and will host a music program throughout the year.

The launch of the Uplift Live Music & Art project will be Thursday 15 February at 12 noon followed by the first lunch time concert at 12.30pm by world-renown percussionist Greg Sheehan. Further lunchtime concerts will take place throughout the year including Stonewave Taiko, Corrine Gibbons, Andy O'Donnell, Chelsy Atkins, The Friday Choir and also Guitarama with Dave Crowden.

Greg Sheehan, Premkranti and Damon Davis will provide individual and ward sessions in the Mental Health and Kids Wards, Medical and Surgical Wards and the Sub-acute Rehabilitation Unit.

Arts Health projects strives to decrease pain, anxiety and boredom that is often associated with critical diagnosis and hospitalisation. This is an opportunity for artists to contribute their creativity to others in an important and meaningful way.

Uplift is an initiative of South East Arts, supported by the Mumbulla Foundation, Bega Valley Shire Council, Tulgeen Disability Services and Bega Valley Regional Gallery.
