Goulburn Reader Writer Festival funding announced

Goulburn Reader Writer Festival to receive $10,000 from NSW Government Member for Goulburn the Hon. Pru Goward MP today announced that one of the region’s newest events, Goulburn Reader Writer Festival would receive $10,000 thanks to Round 1 of the NSW Government’s 2018 Incubator Event Fund.

The Fund, managed by the State’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, assists regional events in their infancy to grow attendance and boost the local visitor economy.

“Events in Goulburn play a fundamental role in attracting both new and returning visitors to our city. Bringing with them additional business beyond the event including restaurants, tourism attractions and accommodation providers,” Ms Goward said

“The 2018 festival will highlight some of the region’s best food bloggers, magazine publishers and celebrity chefs along with food writers for recipe books, historians, and novelists who make food a major theme in their literary works.

“I congratulate the event organisers at the Goulburn Mulwaree Library on this wonderful achievement and look forward to seeing the city buzzing with visitors when the Reader Writer Festival rolls around,” Ms Goward added.

Ms Goward said the Reader Writer Festival has already driven visitors to Goulburn in previous years and this year’s theme ‘Feed Your Mind’ is sure to be another success.

Erin Williams, Goulburn Mulwaree Library Manager is delighted to receive the funding, " We believe the festival will become an important cultural event for the Goulburn region with interesting and entertaining activities for the whole family.

“It’s so wonderful to see so many people embracing the Library and all we have to offer, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the Festival in March,” Ms Williams said.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall congratulated the Reader Writer Festival, as one of only eight events that had been selected to receive NSW Government funding. The funding aims to assist with elements such as staging costs, venue hire, marketing and publicity.

“As a country-based Minister I am determined to ensure that we continue to empower and support our regional NSW tourism industry, such as Goulburn’s, and that means investing in activities which turbocharge local economies and create jobs” Mr Marshall said.
