The Beagle Editor, Your readers might be interested in some long awaited news. Unofficially we are aware that the Batemans Bay Helipad is to be extended and reopened. The Batemans Bay Boaters Association has been in close communication with NSW Ambulance Aeromedical Services in regard to reopening the Batemans Bay Marina Helipad now that some structures have been removed from the safety zone. We were contacted by their Aviations consultant who, after seeking input, submitted his report to reopen the existing helipad and extend it seawards to take the larger Toll air ambulances. Other sites were considered but the current location has many advantages being close to the river, hospital and being on Crown Land. We have been advised that the money for this has been identified. All that stands in the way of Batemans Bay getting its helipad back is the Eurobodalla Shire Council Infrastructure Services Division and approval from the Councillors. This could be an opportunity for one of our Councillors to raise it as Urgent Business or to request that a report comes to Council as soon as possible to ensure a smooth transition of paperwork. We may not see it tomorrow but it should happen. Batemans Bay Boaters Association
