Council now needs to commit to Albert Ryan Park rather than gabber and jaw-flap

Dear Editor,

In a recent Bay Post there was an article from a group calling themselves Supporting Albert Ryan Park that outline details contained in Councils Recreational Open Space Strategy ROSS report.

In this report action on Albert Ryan Park was listed "medium". The facts are this beloved park is looking sad, lonely and neglected and this little toilet block, the picnic tables and the road surface are a disgrace especially given the picturesque location of this park on Beach Road.

In my presentation to Council I asked that this area be "upgraded to PRIORITY" and that state of the art toilet with a disable facility be provided and that a "dump point" be also provided for the many caravans, mobile homes, 5th wheelers visiting our shire.

In 2016 there were 554,344 registered caravans in Australia, in June 2017 there were 11.58 million caravan and campers in overnight stays through Australia. This shire needs to embrace this form of tourism and with these facilities in the various travellers guides it will place Albert Ryan Park in the Eurobodalla in every caravan, mobile home and 5th wheeler in Australia.

It was indicated that there is a 5 year time frame on action on the Park. The original group Save Albert Ryan Park find this unacceptable. The upgrade of this park should not be allowed to roll on for the next 5 years.

This week I was contacted by a business person in the community who congratulated me on my presentation to Council and told me that he fully supported me and my suggestion and that he had recently had discussion with Council on this same subject.

We ALL need to get behind an upgrade a Albert Ryan Park to ensure that further neglect of this area does not occur.
