In our consultations with pool user groups and individuals we became aware the Eurobodalla community was never widely consulted by Eurobodalla Council, about plans to replace Batemans Bays 50m pool with a 25 metre pool in the Mackay Park Precinct Redevelopment.
We believe Council’s process was undemocratic, in that the very people who use Batemans Bays 50 metre pool, who have the most to lose currently and, in the future, by the reduction of pool space by 33 percent. Batemans Bay Swimming Club, the Public Schools Sporting Association, local Surf Life Saving Clubs, Eurocoast Triathlon Club were never included in the planning and decision making process.
Accordingly, here is the survey that Council should have conducted with the whole community, before a decision was made to replace Batemans Bays 50 metre pool with a 25 metre pool We believe such a move is a huge backward step for the future of swimming and an inclusive community.
