Amanda Annabel wins the Area 29 International Speech contest

Toastmaster Clubs Bega, Moruya and Batemans Bay held their Area 29 International Speech Contest at Club Narooma recently. The International Speech contest was represented by a member from each club where each contestant selected a personal choice subject . The successful winner was Amanda Annabel, representing Moruya Toastmasters Club. Amanda will now present her speech at the District 70 International Speech Contest at Gungahlin Canberra this month.

Amanda was asked why she entered the international speech contest and to share her thoughts on why she continues as a member of Toastmasters after 13 years.

"I enjoyed entering our Area 29 speech contest because pitting yourself against others in a competitive arena is the best way to up your game in life. "Not only does it give me the opportunity to practice the skills I have learned in Toastmasters, it provides a communication balance in life for me to assist in many other areas of social intercourse. "I joined Toastmasters 13 years ago and from that time it has provided me with a wealth of opportunities and experiences. The main advantages for me being a Toastmaster is the assistance it gave with my career. "Toastmasters has also given me the confidence to step up and take control in many arenas of my life. An example would be my new confidence in being able to articulate a complaint about a product or service. I encourage anyone to join Toastmasters because it helps everyone to become a more confident and effective person.”
