The title aspirations of both Tuross Head Men’s Bowling Club’s Pennant sides were dented during Round 6 of the competition. The faint hopes of the Grade 5 side were dashed when they were well beaten at home by Dalmeny. The bogey of Braidwood struck again with the Grade 7 side making another unsuccessful trip up ‘the Clyde’!
After two good wins the Grade 5 side approached their match with Dalmeny with confidence and a faint chance of grabbing the flag. This was soon extinguished as the Dalmeny sides grabbed match winning leads on two of the three rinks. New skip, Peter Wood, had a baptism of fire with his team down 17 – 2 after 9 ends. They did rally but went down 27 -13.
It was a similar story on John Fahey’s rink. They were outclassed on the early ends and were down 10 – 1 after 7 ends. They struggled to get into the game, and although only conceding low scores, they were beaten 22 – 12.
Joel Hilliard’s rink was the only bright light fir Tuross. They held the upper hand for most of the game with Hilliard again leading the way with some masterly bowls. However, the Dalmeny skip was also playing well and he converted some great situations to level the scores at 19 apiece with three to play. Hilliard steadied and picked up 5 shots on the 19th end to regain control and won 28 – 19.
Dalmeny won the match 68 shots to 53 and 9 points to 1.
The Grade 7 side found the Braidwood side too good on all rinks. They lost 79 shots to 36 and 10 points to 0. This means that Braidwood are now only 1 point behind Tuross on the table with three rounds to play. The final round match in Tuross could be the decider!
On Saturday the three Tuross teams were well beaten. Ian Wratten’s team lost 25 – 10; Ronnie Richardson lost 32 – 15 and Jim Madden went down 22 -12. The side needs to regroup. They have three rounds to play with two at home starting with Tomakin next week.
