Premier Gladys Berejiklian has joined Transport and Infrastructure Minister and the Member for Bega Andrew Constance to inspect progress on the NSW Government’s $45 million upgrade of the Princes Highway at Dignams Creek.
The construction of the bridges across Dignams Creek and Dignams Creek Road is progressing well and the entire upgrade is on track to be complete in mid-2019, weather permitting.
“Work on the new bridges started in the second half of last year and the Dignams Creek Bridge is already about 60 per cent complete,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“Recently completed components of the upgrade include a temporary road at the northern end of the project to allow for work to take place as safely and efficiently as possible.
“The upgrade will improve safety and efficiency by widening about 800 metres of the Princes Highway and building a new two kilometre section of the road to meet current standards.”
Mr Constance said the next stage of work will involve the installation of a large fauna crossing underneath the highway to provide a connection between the National Parks.
“The realignment of the highway has been many years in the making and it’s pleasing to inspect the progress to date,” Mr Constance said.
“Motorists are thanked for their ongoing patience and can be assured this upgrade is worth the wait. The community will be kept informed as work progresses towards completion.”
During construction so far, more than 200,000 cubic metres of earthworks have been carried out.
