Tuross Head Men’s Bowls
Round 7 of the 2018 Pennants season has been played and although both Tuross sides had very close battles with their opponents, they came out on the wrong side of the score line. The Grade 7 side had a heart breaking 2 shot loss at home to Tomakin that has seen them lose their position at the head of the table. The Grade 5 side had another nail biting game with Moruya before going down by 6 shots.
In the Grade 5 match John Fahey’s team set the pace for Tuross and raced to a 13 – 5 lead after 13 ends. Moruya turned the game in two ends picking up 7 shots to make it a ‘one shot’ game. Fahey then reasserted his dominance to win his rink 22 – 16.
Joel Hilliard also had a great start and also built up a good lead of 13 – 6 after 13 ends. However, over the next 4 ends they lost 11 shots to go behind 17 – 13. A late rally was not enough and they lost 19 – 16.
Moruya had the better start on Peter Wood’s rink and looked to have the game in the bag when they lead 23 – 2 after 12 ends. But this time it was the Tuross side that regrouped. They fought back well and were able to limit the final score to 26 – 17.
Moruya kept their pennant chances alive with the 61 – 55, 9- 1 victory.
The Grade 7 side almost pulled off a come from behind victory but will rue their two shot overall loss. Ronnie Richardson’s team looked in trouble when they trailed 15 – 8 after 10 ends, but they finished very strongly to win 26 – 22.
Ian Wratten’s four also looked down and out when they were behind 19 – 10 after 17 ends. They fought back to be just 2 shots behind with an end to play. Tomakin grabbed two shots on the last end to win 21 – 17.
The situation was almost identical on Jim Madden’s rink. They were down 20 – 13 after 15 ends only to fight back to level the score at 21 apiece with an end to go. Again Tomakin were able to secure two shots to give them a 23 – 21 win.
Overall Tomakin won 66 shots to 64. The 9 – 1 points allocation means that now Tuross trail Braidwood by 8 points with two games to be played – with the last round clash at home against Braidwood potentially determining which side will win the flag.
