The well attended launch had two invited locals speaking: 'Paddy ' Otton, a descendant of some of the original pioneers in the Bega Valley and a well-known local identity spoke about the area's early history, while Bruce Gaunson, a Merimbula resident who has recently written 'Fighting the Kaiserreich, Australia's epic within the Great War' spoke about his research and his discovery (not acknowledged in other Australian histories) that Australia was under a very real threat from Germany prior to and throughout World War I.

‘Recollections’ is also now available (whilst stocks last) from all branches of libraries in the Bega Valley and Eurobodalla Shires.
‘Recollections’ is the main way the South Coast History Society shares the area’s intriguing history with anyone who may be interested.
“We have certainly discovered that interest in our local history is widespread,” Mr Lacey told the Beagle News.
“We had requests for copies of the magazine from England, Canada and New Zealand, and from all around Australia. Local schools asked for hundreds of copies for their students who are studying history, and we've even had numerous requests from doctors and hairdressers wanting copies to place in their waiting areas.”
“Each month we receive about 100 emails and phone calls from locals asking us when the next issue would be published or asking us to ensure an email version of future editions was sent to them.”
“But perhaps the most gratifying aspect of all is that locals provide interesting extra information about articles that included in the issues allowing us to include that community feedback in followup issues"
