Tuross Head Men’s Bowls
The second last round of the 2018 Pennant season has been played with more disappointment for the two Tuross sides.
The grade 7 side played Malua Bay at home. Despite winning two of the three rinks Tuross lost the match overall. This game followed the pattern that has plagued the side throughout the season. They have been very competitive but have failed to finish well enough.
After 54 of the 63 ends in this clash Tuross was ahead on the master board by 47 to 45. However, Malua Bay won eight of the remaining 9 ends to record a 65 – 49 win that keeps them at the top of the table.
Peter Wood’s team had a good afternoon to record their first win of the season. In fact, they led throughout but had to battle hard to hold of their opponents who fought back strongly after being down 15 – 7. Malua Bay won 7 of the last 8 ends but could not score enough shots to win the game. Tuross won 17 – 15.
Joel Hilliard’s side continued their strong season with another win. They held the upper hand throughout but once again had to hold off a fast finishing Malua Bay. Tuross went into the last end 16 – 15 ahead only to see Malua Bay dominate the end. With his last bowl, Hilliard moved the jack to pick up two shots and claim a 18 – 15 win.
John Fahey’s side struggled all day with the Malua Bay skip, Ron Beeley, and third, Kevin Rootsey, in great touch. Time and again they snatched the advantage. Over the last 3 ends they picked up 12 shots that resulted in the score blowing out to 35 – 14 making it impossible for an overall Tuross win despite Tuross winning two rinks.
Malua Bay won 8 – 2.
The grade 7 side travelled to Bodalla confident that they could record a win that would keep them in the race for the title. In their two previous meetings this season Tuross had recorded strong wins.
However, this time the locals really spoiled the party convincingly winning all three rinks. The 10 – 0 win to Bodalla has meant that Braidwood have won the pennant with a game to play.
Ronnie Richardson’s side played well on their rink. After being down 11 – 3 after 7 ends they fought back to grab a 13 – 12 lead after 15 ends, However, Bodalla finished strongly to win 22 – 16.
Both Ian Wratten’s and Jim Madden’s sides struggled all day and were never in their matches. Wratten could only manage to win 4 ends in going down 30 – 7. Madden did a little better winning 7 ends but they lost 30 – 15.
Bodalla recorded a massive 82 to 38 shots win.
