The Batemans Bay Boars took to the field on Saturday for Round 1 of the South Coast Monaro competition against one of the stronger clubs in Bungendore, and were able to come away with a very satisfying win 24 to 12. In the 4 years since Batemans Bay have been competing in the this competition, they have never beating the Mudchooks, and this will give great confidence to the team in the coming weeks.
The Boars dominated possession and territory in the opening exchanges, and were unlucky not to come away with more points during the opening 10 – 15 minute period. In a free flowing game, the teams traded attacking raids before Ashbee Reid started to find some space, and when winger Greg McEwen was able to beat the Mudchook fullback one on one, the Boars went 5 nil into the break.
In the second half, the Boars started to attack the wider channels with great affect, and with this came 3 more well worked tries. 2 tries to Jacob Bradbury, 1 to Tremayne Chatfield, and 2 conversions to James Thomas and the Boars were well and truly on top. The Mudchooks points came out wide late in the game.
James Thomas was awarded the Golden Oldies Memorial Trophy for Best & Fairest.
The next game will be against the Gungahlin ‘Bald Eagles’ in Gungahlin on Saturday 14th from 2:30pm.
