The latest Youth Unemployment figures have dropped close to 4% (Southern Highlands and Shoalhaven) since December 2017, demonstrating the Australian Government’s commitment to getting more people into work. Member for Gilmore Ann Sudmalis said she will continue to deliver greater Youth Employment opportunities. “Next Monday 16 April I will launch the 2018 Gilmore Apprenticeship Challenge running from April to June to encourage young people to get an apprenticeship,” she said. “Since the start of last year’s Challenge 1,359 apprenticeships commenced in Gilmore. As the Federal Member, this is something I believe we should all be incredibly proud of and I congratulate all of our apprentices. “In 2017 I ran a series of successful Employment Forums to connect job seekers with employers and mentors to find a pathway in to training or work." Gilmore’s $20 million Regional Jobs Investment Package will deliver almost 1000 new jobs in our region, and the Government’s Youth Jobs PaTH program (Prepare-Trial–Hire) has helped 20,000 young Australians get the skills and work experience they need to find, and keep, a job. “Gilmore’s latest Youth Employment figures are encouraging and demonstrate that local and national programs are working, it’s a step in the right direction and I will continue to push for greater job opportunities,” said Mrs Sudmalis.
