The Durras area is renowned for coexisting with wildlife. In fact we wouldn't have it any other way. But sometimes goodwill towards local wildlife becomes a little stretched. A local goanna in the village was becoming very threatening in behavior to such an extent that a resident sustained a serious hand injury requiring a hospital visit and being on high strength antibiotics. It was decided after consulting with the NPWS and Wires that the best outcome for this particular goanna was for it to be relocated. This was done by a professional reptile handler, the goanna was successfully moved to a more remote bushland setting this week. Hopefully this particular goanna will not run into human conflict again. May he live long and prosper!
