Eurobodalla Senior Users Computer Group ( EuroSCUG) held a very successful Open Day at Moruya Golf Club on Wednesday 4th April, signing up several visitors on the day. President Amanda Annabel and Vice-President Mike Hitchcock welcomed members and guests, explained a little about EuroSCUG, and outlined the programme for the day.
Presentations included Galaxy for Citizen Scientists (which involves volunteer-based research), Useful Apps for iPads, Apps for Android Tablets and Phones, Online Shopping, Family History, and Editing Photographs. John Allen was kept busy at the Help Desk. A break between sessions enabled visitors to chat with members over a cuppa.
At the next meeting, at 10am on Wednesday 2nd May at Moruya Golf Club, guest speaker will be Lei Parker, editor of the web-based “South Coast Travel Guide” which covers the Eurobodalla coast from South Durras to the Tilbas. The web-based guide includes maps, and information on the towns and their attractions, where to stay and where to eat.
After morning tea, small groups will cover various topics, including “Where to Look Before you Book”, an interactive session with opportunities for people to share their favourite travel sites and tips, and “Editing Photographs using Free Programs," which will cover Picasa, PhotoFiltre and FastStone Image Viewer. Other sessions will include “ Starting with Windows 10”, “Cleaning/Speeding up Your Computer” and Genealogy.
A Help Desk will also be available to provide assistance with hardware or software problems.
EuroSCUG is a group of people willing to share and pool knowledge and experience in modern technology. It is a friendly group, offering a wonderful opportunity for seniors to make friends, socialise, and expand their awareness of local happenings.
Members meet at 10am on the first Wednesday of the month at Moruya Golf Club, and local area groups meet regularly in Batemans Bay, Moruya, Tuross Head and Narooma. Monthly tablet groups (iPad and Android) are also held.
