Cool conditions are expected for this weekend’s Beyond Bank Regatta, the biggest annual sailing regatta on the NSW South Coast. Batemans Bay Sailing Club have been running this regatta for over 40 years. It has become a traditional end of season event for many sailors around the state. It is particularly popular with Canberra sailors wanting a taste of real ocean sailing. Crews also come from Sydney, the Illawarra and all over south east NSW. It is open to dinghies, off the beach multihulls as well as trailerable yachts and sports boats. Most competitors will have already entered online, but BBSC will still be taking late entries at the BBSC clubhouse on Saturday morning.
Strong fleets are expected in the Lightweight Sharpie, Hobie 16 and Hansa Dinghy classes. Racing will be held in the middle of the Bay as well as on an inshore course between Snapper Island and Corrigans Beach for the junior and Sailability fleets. The boats will be rigging up on Corrigans Beach on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The best vantage point to watch the racing will be either on the water or from Observation Head.
