Gilmore Veterans

Veterans in Gilmore have met in Nowra today with the Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel, Amanda Rishworth at a local veteran’s forum hosted by Labor’s Candidate for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips to discuss some of the issues they are facing. Discussed at length at today’s roundtable was Labor’s recent announcement of a Veterans Employment Policy. This comprehensive policy will assist in helping veterans transition to civilian life and link the unique skills they have gained during their time in Defence to a meaningful career outside of the ADF. This policy will provide eligible business with a training grant of up to $5,000 in order to help veterans gain the skills and experience they need to move into a civilian job. Also discussed was providing support to ADF families. ADF families play a pivotal role in supporting our current serving ADF men, women and veterans, which is why it is important we ensure they have the support they need to address the unique challenges of military family life. That is why Labor committed, if elected, to a Family Engagement and Support Strategy. Military families across the Gilmore electorate know just how important family support is - they are often our unsung heroes who play a pivotal role in supporting our current and former service personnel.
