Bay Theatre Players to present ‘Guys and Dolls’


Bay Theatre Players will present the musical, ‘Guys and Dolls’ as its final play of 2018.

And, to start the ball rolling, Director, Lerae Davison, will hold an information evening at 7 pm at the Bay Playhouse, 33 Gregory Street, Batemans Bay on Wednesday, 16 May.

Auditions for the production will follow at a later date. The show will be on stage in October.

‘Guys and Dolls’, well-known to musical comedy aficionados, has been described as ‘a triumph and a delight’, ‘a work of art’ and the ‘perfect musical comedy’.

It brings to life Damon Runyon’s much loved New York underworld. Gangsters, gamblers, evangelists and showgirls inhabit this musical fable which features the hit songs, ‘Luck Be A Lady’, ‘Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat’, ‘I’ve Never Been in Love Before’ and ‘Adelaide’s Lament (A Person Can Develop a Cold)’.

The show premiered on Broadway in 1950 when it ran for 1200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. It has had several Broadway and West End revivals, as well as a 1955 film adaptation starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine.
