Joseph Tawadros plays Milton Theatre Sat 19th May

It was one of the best gigs at the Milton Theatre last year and they are thrilled to welcome him back. Joseph Tawadros AM is a 4-times ARIA award winning master of the Oud, a Middle Eastern lute. Joseph is touring as a special guest with the Australian Chamber Orchestra in May and June 2018, while also presenting trio and solo concerts around the same time and we're lucky enough to have him play Milton!

Expect a thrilling mix of Middle Eastern, jazz, traditional sounds and contemporary innovations, including music from Joseph's new album The Bluebird, the Mystic and the Fool. As well as being virtuosic on the oud, Tawadros is also a masterful teller of hilarious tales from the road.

In his trio are Matt McMahon - one of Australia's finest jazz pianists and James Tawadros - Joseph's brother who is a virtuoso player of Egyptian percussion (req, frame drum).

Joseph, 34, was born in Cairo, grew up in Sydney and currently lives in London. He performs all over the world often with orchestras presenting his original works, including BBC Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne and Sydney Symphony Orchestras and the Academy of Ancient Music in London. In 2017 Joseph performed at the BBC Proms in Dubai, in Ukraine, Poland, Vienna, London, Manchester, as well as several Australian cities including the premiere of his Oud Concerto for Oud and Orchestra with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

"One of the most impressive musicians to emerge in Australia...with a dazzling technique dispensing hair-raising tempos...His writing displays a real depth of emotion...revelling in a zest for life and celebration." - The Australian newspaper
