Are you looking after a family member or relative who has a disability, is ageing or has an ongoing mental or other illness? Could do with a well-earned break or other assistance but can’t find the support you need to make your caring role easier?
Family carers in the Eurobodalla region now have an opportunity to voice their thoughts and suggestions on what caring support they’d like at a community meeting hosted by Carers ACT, who provide respite support for carers on the South Coast. Carers are encouraged to come to a ‘Community Conversation’ and share and explore their ideas on:
· What would make their caring role and life easier, happier or more fulfilled.
· How the community can best assist carers and their families.
· How to encourage the community to be more inclusive.
Caring can be a deeply rewarding experience, but it can also create numerous challenges for carers in trying to balance family, work, caring and their own needs says Lisa Kelly, CEO of Carers ACT. “Carers tell us they experience financial hardship, social isolation, health and wellbeing issues, frustration, exhaustion and extreme stress”.
“By holding a community meeting to find out what carers want and need in their local area, we hope to alleviate some of these challenges by having a better idea of how best to support them. This meeting is their chance to have their say, meet other carers and share experiences with others who understand them,” said Ms Kelly.
“If a carer needs respite or transport to attend, they can call our Carer Support Coordinator, Shannan, who’s based in Bateman’s Bay, on 0432 272 253 or our Carer Support Team on 1800 052 222”.
