Eurobodalla Council’s new Household Waste and Recycling Guide 2018-19 is OUT NOW
The fresh-look guide is the go-to place for all things recycling and waste, including what can and can’t go in yellow-lid recycling bins, red-lid garbage bins, and green-lid garden organics bins, what can be taken to waste management facilities for free, and tips on reducing household waste.
The guide features a handy tear-off calendar for bin collection days and on the reverse is a new A-Z guide, which lists what to do with every unwanted item under the sun – from acids and alkalais to x-rays. A magnet is supplied with the guide so the collection calendar and A-Z guide can be put on the fridge or noticeboard for use throughout the year.
The guide also outlines what recyclable items can be dropped off at Council’s waste management facilities for free, such as excess household recycling, empty oil containers, batteries, fluorescent light tubes, polystyrene, DrumMuster chemical drums, televisions and computers and scrap steel and metal, including white goods.
Council’s Divisional Manager Waste Services Amanda Jones said a recent audit of Eurobodalla yellow lid recycling bins showed contamination levels of about 12.7 per cent.
“We’re still finding things like plastic bags, nappies, clothes and food in residents’ recycling bins and the audit results confirm there is room for improvement,” she said.
“We’re hoping this guide helps clear up confusion about what can and can’t go in each bin and that residents will refer to it throughout the year.
“There has never been more attention on the importance of reducing our waste as a community, and we’ve included simple tips on how to avoid single-use items and how to find out more about composting food waste as well.”
