This August, local high school students will come together to tackle issues of social change at the Far South Coast Youth Leadership Forum. For the first time, this program is being held in the region for 30 passionate young people to who will be inspired in leadership, trained in change making skills, and challenged to take on social and environmental problems in their community. High school students in the region will be the first to take part in the local Far South Coast Youth Leadership Forum (better know as Far SCYLF) this August. The forum is a two day program empowering young people in rural Australia to tackle issues of social change in their communities. The Far SCYLF aims to foster youth community engagement by encouraging young people to identify and respond to local social and environmental issues. Over the course of the program participants are given a platform to discuss and develop ideas to overcome these issues. They then independently design and pitch a project around these ideas to a panel of changemakers. The SCYLF program, which has run for 5 successful years in the Shoalhaven area, has this year been sponsored by Regional Development Australia to be held for students in the Far South Coast Region on August 18-19th in Tuross Head. The goal is that the expansion of this program will generate a network of engaged and empowered youth across regional Australia. Passionate young changemakers aged 15 - 19 are invited to take on the challenge and be inspired, hearing from keynote speakers, developing leadership skills in hands-on workshops and learning social change strategies. In 2017 Regional Development Australia identified the merit the program was bringing to the area and sponsored the program to be held in the Far South Coast in 2018. Sonder Youth is a youth development team brought on to coordinate the program.
