The 23rd Far South Coast Woodwork Show was held at the Central Tilba community halls over the Queen's Birthday long weekend. The show is organised by the three local woodwork groups - Narooma, Eurobodalla and Bega Woodies. Over 550 people attended the event which ran on both the Saturday and Sunday. The show is divided into three sections; displays of woodworking techniques including wood turning, toy making and using a small CNC router to make children's name plaques, an exhibition of fine woodwork in the small hall and sales of woodwork made by the three clubs in the main hall. The show has been held at Tilba every June since its establishment in 1995. In addition to the regular displays, this year Brian Moore brought his exhibition of model railway bridges, which are all painstakingly made by hand, to the show. Brian has shown these across the state at various model train meets
In the woodwork exhibition two prizes are awarded - Best in Show and the Peoples Choice. The exhibition attracts entries from the three clubs as well as a number of independent woodworkers in the area.
This year Eric Simes of the Eurobodalla club won the Best in Show with a hall table made from recycled merbau and iron bark inlaid with Norfolk Island and huon pine. Peoples Choice was won by Helmut Delrieux with a document box made from a river red gum burl with huon pine and included hand made pens and a pen box.
Every year a raffle with prizes consisting of fine woodwork and/or tools is held in conjunction with the show. This year the first prize was a toolbox also made by Helmut, which included a hand made iron bark mallet and wooden vice. The first prize also included a $60 gift card donated by Bunnings Batemans Bay. The second prize was a walnut platter with a camphor laurel base made by Colin Boxsell of Narooma and the third prize was an exquisite jewelry box made from merbau, red gum and scribbly gum bark. The first prize in the raffle was won by Patricia Culmone of Dalmeny, the walnut platter was won by Carla White from Narooma and the jewellery box was won by Sharon Morrison of Lilly Pilly.
