The Seahawks made it eight wins on the trot yesterday with a 43 point win over the Cootamundra Blues. The Seahawks set the tone with a big first quarter taking a 26 point lead into the first break. The second quarter was much the same as Karl Dehne asserted his dominance in the ruck and gave his midfielders first use at every stoppage. Youngster Will Aiken chimed in with two quick goals as the Seahawks increased their lead to 39 points at halftime. The third quarter was a tough tussle as Cootamundra kicked the first goal of the quarter but the Seahawks hit back kicking two of their own. It was Cootamundra again with the early goal in the last quarter kicking four consecutive goals getting on top in the midfield but once again the Seahawks fought back late in the quarter to kick three quick goals. Aiken and Shaun Green were strong up forward kicking three goals each while Ross Hummel and Nathan Blackburn also kicked two each. With a couple of our midfielders out Sam Hodges stood up and dominated in the middle. Whilst the Backline led by Tom Purcell, Michael Kenny and Simon Croft halted a lot of Cootamundra’s attacking raids. It was a different story in Yass as our undermanned Reserve Grade boys showing plenty of spirit going down to the premiers. Although struggling for players the Seahawks battled hard all day led once again by Nathan Munnerley who was outstanding. Connor Art was given a new role in the ruck and showed his versatility as a player while Chris Hales battled hard all day. Youngster Byron Van Dyk sparked life into the Seahawks in the second quarter kicking three consecutive goals but unfortunately for the Seahawks fight was too hard in the second half. Both grades are back at home this Saturday in the second night game for the year against the Molonglo Juggernauts. The Reserve Grade fixture gets underway at 3.45pm with the top of the table First Grade clash kicking off at 6pm. Come down and support the boys as they look to continue their winning streak 🦅🦅🦅
