Dog Areas on display for submissions NOW

Eurobodalla Shire Council has now compiled a draft based on community feedback and ideas. The redrafted proposed changes to dog exercise areas are now on public exhibition in our draft Companion Animal Management Plan.

Council says "While it’s impossible to accommodate everybody at every location, we listened, and did our best to find a good balance.

"We’ve created these maps to make it easier for you to see the proposed changes by location."

Recommendations in a nutshell:

👉 Off leash areas almost double

👉 Timeshare goes off leash in response to community feedback – meaning dogs would be allowed off leash in off-peak times on all timeshare beaches, but prohibited between 9am and 5pm from 1 November to 30 April

👉 Prohibited dog areas also increase, primarily due to sections being restricted, for example being part of or adjoining a National Park

👉 New reserve off-leash areas are proposed at Surf Beach, Nelligen, Dalmeny and a trial at Hanging Rock

👉 Dogs will be prohibited on actual sporting fields but allowed on-leash on the sidelines and non-playing field areas

Other recommendations included in the draft plan following the community’s feedback are to conduct a review of signage, to increase ranger patrols and enforcement (particularly related to correct usage of dog exercise areas) and to improve responsible pet ownership in partnership with animal welfare organisations, dog training groups and the RSPCA. It also notes that dog owners are responsible for picking up and disposing of their dog poo and the phasing out of dog poo bag dispensers.

Submissions close on Tuesday 4 September 2018
