Walking for Pleasure September 2018


SEPTEMBER 2018 5 SEPTEMBER w015 WIMBIE BEACH—THREE BEACHES WALK Our meeting place today is the parking area at the end of Newth Place, Wimbie Beach. This will be a beach walk along Wimbie Beach, Surf Beach, and Denhams Beach, then return. From Surf Beach shops direction turn left off Beach Road into Newth Place IMMEDIATELY BEFORE the roundabout at George Bass Drive. From George Bass Drive (north or south) turn into Beach Road off the Roundabout and IMMEDIATELY take the right-hand slip lane to turn right into Newth Place. 12 SEPTEMBER w025 MOGO OVAL—BUSH WALK UP SHORT STREET Just south of Mogo village turn off the Princes Highway into Buckenbowra Road, then right into Park St and left into Queen St to the Mogo Oval. Our walk will be along Park and Veitch Streets over Mogo Creek to Short Street and along Short Street into the Mogo State Forest and return. 19 SEPTEMBER w043 MORUYA: NORTH HEAD DRIVE PICNIC AREA—RYANS CREEK We will meet at the picnic area in North Head Drive just off the Princes Highway at the northern end ofWe will meet at the picnic area in North Head Drive just off the Princes Highway at the northern end of the Moruya River bridge. We will walk over the bridge, past the swimming pool, and continue along the river to where Ryans Creek meets the river. From there we will follow the road through Riverside Park, and then back to the picnic area for our lunch. Alternatively see overleaf for the Overnight Bus Trip to Merimbula on 19 & 20 September. 26 SEPTEMBER w066 TUROSS HEAD: TUROSS BOATSHED—WALK AROUND AREA This week we will meet at the Tuross Boatshed & Cafe. To get there, turn off the Princes Highway into Hector McWilliam Drive. Follow Hector McWilliam Drive for about 5 km to the T-junction "GIVE WAY" sign, turn right, then turn into the second road on the right, Trafalgar Road. Follow Trafalgar Road to the parking area near the Boatshed, drive through the parking area to the road down to the waterside where we will park our cars. From there, we will walk around the area, including Chatham Park, returning to the picnic area for our lunch. Fish & chips perhaps? A lunch suggestion is to pre-order your fish & chips, indicate the time of your return and collect at the end of our walk. All our walks begin at 11am sharp and last 1 to 1½ hours, or less, depending on one's ability. Afterwards we enjoy a BYO picnic lunch together, so bring a chair/seat to be comfortable. Good walking shoes and protection from the weather is all that is needed to join our group, so come walking with us, make new friends, and enjoy yourself. Please note that the walks are never cancelled due to the weather, because though it may be raining at your place it frequently will not be raining at the walk venue. Make up your own mind, but we recommend that you attend. 19 & 20 SEPTEMBER w105 MERIMBULA OVERNIGHT BUS TRIP PLUS WALKS Today we travel by Rixon's coach down Princes Highway to group morning tea at Cobargo, then group lunch and a walk at Panboola Wetlands, Pambula, followed by travel to South Seas Motel in Merimbula. In the afternoon explore the town, then group dinner at Merimbula RSL. Free evening. Next day breakfast in your room, then walk along estuary boardwalk to morning tea at café at boardwalk end. Coach along coast to group lunch at Bermagui Country Club. Coach to walk along Old Tilba Coast Road, then coach home via Princes Highway. The coach will pick up participants on Wednesday 19 September at stops and times along Beach Road and then George Bass Drive. Stops and times are yet to be confirmed with Rixons Bus Company, so the following list is a guide. Participants will be notified by e-mail or phone in due course. We aim to reach Cobargo for morning tea at 11 am. Folding picnic seats and tables are not necessary.
