Dear Andrew. Thank you for your recent brochure mailed to Eurobodalla residents outlining project funding. As manager for Teensafe, I support our “Fix The Bloody Highway” campaign in conjunction with the Fairfax Media “Fix It Now” campaign. It is welcome advice in your brochure regarding the $1.5 Billion for “major works on the Princes Highway to ensure safety…”. Please advise the amount of funding earmarked for the highway south from Nowra to Narooma, excluding Batemans Bay bridge which is not a safety issue. I appreciate you are busy with transport issues in Sydney. However, the Princes Hwy running through your electorate is not safe as mounting road fatalities and injuries suggest.
Teensafe ( www.teensafemoruya.org ) has been campaigning for more overtaking lanes and centre barriers as per various media releases. We do not have adequate public transport in the region so the traffic has been increasing for years beyond the original highway design capacity. It is unlikely we will see a four lane highway south of Nowra anytime soon so it is even more important to provide overtaking lanes and centre barriers as a matter of urgency to make our economic and social lifeline safer.
Regards, Gary Smith. Manager, Teensafe
