Balloon Aloft on the South Coast

Today saw Balloon Aloft Canberra Chief Pilot Kim (full name Hyung Joo Kim, but everyone calls him Kim) up at 2am checking the weather before driving down to Batemans Bay with fellow balloon pilots Craig Farrell and Suze McKenzie along with ground crewman Jacob Brown (also a balloon pilot).

Kim has been planning a flight from Batemans Bay for the last few months, with the aim of flying to Braidwood. He has been patiently waiting for the right weather. Today the wind direction was correct however, and unfortunately, when the crew checked the weather prior to launch they found the wind was too slow to achieve the Braidwood destination. As they were there Kim decided to fly anyway.

Kim, Craig & Suze launched the balloon from Corrigan’s Reserve and flew across to Long Beach to then land up the Clyde River near Nelligen. Kim still has a plan to fly to Braidwood, he will just have to wait for the right time and weather The flight had the coastal social media pages a buzz with photos of the balloon as it passed over. Enjoy these photos of the flight kindly provided by Balloon Aloft Canberra
