Eurocoast Triathlon Club members qualify for ITU World Triathlon Grand Final

While most members of the triathlon community are gradually increasing their training in preparation for the forthcoming 2018-19 season, two members of the Eurocoast Triathlon Club have worked to be at their peak.

Sally Jeffrey and Dan Lloyd Jones have both qualified to be Australian representatives at the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final to be held on the Gold Coast later this month.

Amazingly, Sally has qualified for both the Standard (Olympic) distance race of 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run, and the Sprint race (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run). Sally had an amazing 2017-18 season, where she regularly beat other competitors by minutes, where races are usually determined by seconds.

Dan has again qualified for the Sprint distance race. Dan had a solid season, being regularly on the podium. Dan represented Australia in the 2016 World Championships in Mexico, placing 16th overall, and was the leading Australian finisher, despite mechanical and other problems.

The Sprint race will be held on 13 September, while the Olympic distance race will be on 16 September. Both events are based around Southport.

Club members and the whole of the community wish Sally and Dan all the best for their races.

In other news, it seems that there will be no local race held in the Eurobodalla Shire this year. Elite Energy, a Nowra based event organiser who have conducted triathlons in Batemans Bay/Tomakin for a number of years, have indicated that they are not currently planning on holding a “local” event in 2019. No reason has been given for this. This is a major disappointment to both local competitors and their supporters.

The Eurocoast Triathlon Club is celebrating its 5th year. At the AGM, Rod Bradley was returned as President, while Ivo Ahlquist was confirmed as Vice President. The clubs aims are where all ages, genders, shapes and abilities can compete together in a supportive environment.

Any inquiries in relation to the club should be forwarded to Club Secretary, Ray Davidson, via email, at aztec@southernphone.com.au
