Trek 4 Kidz Fundraising Efforts

Twenty two years on and just over $2M raised and donated to the Starlight Children’s Foundation. This is the achievement of TREK4KIDZ. TREK4KIDZ was started by 4 like-minded guys from Tuross Head in NSW. Steve Smith, Don Higgins, Tony Russell and Peter Ashbury’s brainchild was to organise an event that would not only help change the lives of seriously ill children, but would provide a social event for people who share the drive and ambition for charity work and have a keen interest in exploring the great Australian countryside. The first year it was run there were 9 cars who participated and they raised $12,500. This year there were 21 cars who raised just over $180,000. 100% of the funds raised goes to the Starlight Children’s Foundation. No money is taken from the donations received to cover administration costs. These funds enable Starlight to grant hundreds of life-changing wishes or transform the hospital experience for thousands of sick children at hospitals around Australia.

Trek4Kidz is an annual week-long event where the group explores different regional areas of the Australian countryside by car. We have visited more than 400 towns including 45 schools since we began. The trek covers approximately 4000 kms per year. To enjoy this experience you need a road registered car with minimum 3rd Party Property insurance, a ‘good time’ attitude, $500 entry fee per car and minimum $1000 per participant (these funds are achieved through fundraising events prior to the Trek). The car that raises the most funds has the privilege of starting the rally each day. It is a timed rally with the best average times across the Trek taking home the trophy. Like to be involved? For more information go to www.trek4kids.com. Along the way further funds are raised through the hosting of 3 auctions and the Lions Clubs in the towns visited assist with catering and donations. To donate go to http://trek4kidz.com/car-donations or contact via the website.
